Spiritfold:About
Spiritfold is a free, open guide to more than 70 spiritual, inspired and natural health practices in Australia. It is published by the Australian Spiritual Alliance, a national not-for-profit network that recognises, supports and advocates for genuine spiritual, inspired and natural health practitioners across Australia.
Anyone can read Spiritfold, with no account, no subscription and no advertising. Spiritfold doesn't sell anything, rank or recommend practitioners, or promote businesses.
What you'll find here
Each modality page explains:
- what the practice is, and what usually happens in a session;
- what it includes, and what it is not;
- where it comes from, and the traditions and lineages it draws on;
- its place within Spiritualism and in Australia;
- what safe, ethical practice looks like;
- related practices, the sources used, and further reading.
The pages are written for two kinds of reader: people who are new to a practice and want to understand it, and practitioners and teachers who want a reliable description to share with clients and students. Every page can be printed or saved as a PDF.
How pages are written and checked
- Every fact has a source. Each statement of fact comes from an identified, published source, cited where it is used, so readers can check it for themselves. Where Spiritfold has found no published source on a point, the page says so rather than filling the gap.
- In our own words. Pages are written in plain Australian English. Quotations are kept brief and credited.
- Five tests before approval. Before a page is approved it is checked against five tests: Australian context; the rules on advertising therapeutic goods; child safety; work health and safety; and sources and copyright. The tests are set out in Adding a modality.
- Approval by the Alliance. An approver appointed by the Alliance reviews each page and approves the version readers see. Later changes are reviewed before they appear.
- Opinion is labelled. Some pages include a section headed "A Spiritualist perspective". It offers the view of an experienced Spiritualist teacher and is clearly labelled as commentary, separate from the sourced facts.
What Spiritfold is not
- Not an endorsement. Spiritfold describes practices; it does not endorse them. Approving a page means its description has been checked, not that the Alliance endorses the practice.
- Not health advice. Spiritfold makes no health claims. It does not diagnose, treat or recommend treatment, and it is no substitute for advice from a doctor or other registered health professional.
- Not insurance advice. The Insurance page lists modalities that appear on an insurer's quote form. Being listed does not mean anyone is insured.
Respect for every tradition
Each practice is described fairly, in terms its own practitioners would recognise, and without judgement of others. Pages about ceremonies of Indigenous peoples carry a clear notice: they describe the ceremony for Australian readers from published sources and are not guides to performing it.
